The False King (Fall of a King Book One) by James Fuller

I was able to snag James Full for a short interview about this book

If I am not mistaken, The False King is the first book in an epic fantasy: being that is it such a large book I’m curious, did you use an outline for it or just let everything write itself?
This was the first book I ever wrote (funny it is also the biggest) I did a chapter by chapter outline, but oddly almost never followed the outline. The story and characters quickly took on lives of their own and the book just went with it. Who am I to argue?.... no seriously if I argue they might kill me... why do you think I don’t get a lot of sleep... I am scared too.... help!

Of course, my favorite characters are Nicolette and Shaina, what inspired the creation of these two strong women? (are they based off of anyone in your life?)
Nicolette is actually based upon my wife and how I think she would react is such a world (it is how I made her fall in love with me, wrote her into a book)

Shania is a creation all her own, she wasn’t even mean to survive beyond the first half of the book and yet here she is. She made a place for herself and has refused to leave it yet.

Epic Fantasy
Blurb
An epic journey of deceit, betrayal, magic and a treasonous love sets sail as Meath, a young apprentice to the formidable wizard, Ursa, escapes certain death while a freshly united Kingdom is held captive by a false Prince. In hope of relaying the truth of the usurper who now threatens the throne, Meath embarks on a dangerous journey with the true heiress, Nicolette, in an attempt to reach her Uncle before they too are entangled in the lie that has wound itself deep into the lands. Amidst the soldiers dispatched to return the princess and capture Meath and his friends, they must avoid the barbarian clans who have begun a savage war on the Kingdom of Draco; evading what seems like fate has become a perilous game they may not be able to win…

I gave it five out of five stars
I admit, fantasy isn't my thing so when I was asked to read this I was a little hesitant to actually start it. Of course The False Prince changed my opinion. This book grabbed my attention with the first page and didn't let go. My only regret is that life stopped me on several occasions from simply dive in and reading it cover to cover in one sitting.

Magic, friendship, mystery, and betrayal.
The action scenes- as with all of his scenes- are incredibly descriptive. James Fuller knows how to place you in the thick of it all, and he has yet to disappoint. I did notice a few typos, however, I also noticed that he is working on getting them fixed up and the person he trusted to edit his book failed. I will not take away any stars for this. Honestly, I probably wouldn't take away any stars if he simply sat back and ignore the minor grammar errors. While some had me rereading the sentence, I didn't find them that distracting from the over-all product.

His wide cast of characters vary with personalities and depth. Each one was carefully crafted to either make you fall in love with or despise as the story needed. I would have to say that my favorites are Nicolette and Shaina; two very lovely and strong willed females who step up when it is needed. They are opinionated and only grow into more fierce and lovable characters as the tale went on. They are the type(s) of woman I love to read about. And such friendship! I could go on and on about how I loved the way their bonds to one another pulled them through the worst.

I expected the book to end with a cliffhanger as this is suppose to be an epic trilogy- from what I understand- but that didn't prepare me for how he did it. To say I scanned through every book he had out to make sure the second one wasn't already released would be sadly accurate. I can't wait for this story to continue! There are so many questions still in the air, so much action I have yet to witness, and the budding romances definitely snagged my attention. I will be cheering Meath and his friends on, along with James Fuller for producing such wonderful work! I recommend this book to all fantasy lovers, and anyone interested in a deep and captivating story. (Not sure what the price is, I found it on sale for 99 cents)
