Broken Shards of a Masterpiece by James Fuller

I was able to snag James Fuller for a short interview about the book

This book is a collection of short stories that give the readers a little bit of everything to match their mood. Was a collection like this intended when you started to write out the first short story, or did you decide later to group them together as a sort of show case for your work?
Yes it was fully intended. I wanted to give readers a wide view of my styles and depths of what I can do and how I do it.

One of my favorite stories was Room for Rent, where did you get the idea to write it?
(laughing) of course this one had to be asked about. This story holds a lot of truth and a lot of history in my real life. Shirley Fulton is actually based fully upon my mother (though to my knowledge she isn’t as crazy just yet as the woman in the book) But the house described is the house I ran away from when I left home and the animosity she holds towards her son’s ‘wife’  is real as well. It was a very emotional story to write, but one that I felt I need to write to let a certain part of my past go.

What is your favorite short story in this collection and why?
Ride of a Life Time is my favourite within the book. It was something totally left field to what I normal would write about and I honestly almost didn’t write it because I didn’t think I would be able to do it justice. You’d be surprised to know I wrote it in an hour.

While You Sleep is another creepy story that caught my interest. What made you decide to write a tale about a stalker?
I was trying to creep myself out, and I can of did... but I wanted it to be different, most stalker stories follow the person being stalked and not from the stalkers point of view so I went with that instead. It has been one of many peoples favourite stories thus far.

So can you tell us a bit about the author of the last story?
The final story is a feature by my beautiful and talented wife Nicolette, and she has been hesitant on putting her writing out to the world and so I told her to write me something dark and twisted and I would feature it. Expect big things in the future from this woman.

Short Story Collection
Blurb
From the fractured mind of Unforgivable comes ten new stories that explore the fragility of perfection in Broken Shards of a Masterpiece.

Each tale welcomes you to a world shattered by obsession, intrigue and desire where the remnants of reality and illusion meet at a razor edge.

I gave it five out of five stars
Broken Shards of a Masterpiece is a collection of 11 short stories that are well thought out and written with a master story teller's hand. James Fuller captivated me with the first tale and didn't stop until the very end. Though each story was only a few pages long and skipped from genre to genre, he offers enough detail to paint the haunting picture in your mind and transport you into each character's lives. Every tale had a poetic flare to it that almost reminds me of something Edger Allen Poe would write. If you're like me, his shocking twists and some carefully created symbolism will drive you to devour the pages and crave more. The last story wasn't written by James Fuller, but definitely deserves some praise. It was a perfect way to end the collection, and is one of my favorites.

This collection covers a wide spectrum of writing styles and genres, so you are sure to find a story that suits your mood. This is well worth the read, especially for $1.99!
