Paranormal Romance
Blurb
There was something seriously wrong with Marty. That was the only explanation that she could come up with. Why else would she feel this way for the biggest SOB in town? Granted, he was also the hottest man in town, but he was also arrogant, callous, and determined to drive her away even as he drove her crazy with his touch. She should just walk away from him and probably would if it wasn’t for this connection that she’d always had with him that kept making her want more with the one man that couldn’t give her anything more than heartache.
He should have left and never looked back when he’d decided to finally do the right thing and push Marty out of his life, but instead he stuck around to torture himself by staying close to the one woman that he could never allow himself to have. She deserved better than him, better than the tortured existence that he led and better than the horrifying future that waited for him.
I gave it five out of five stars.
Call me what you will, but I am a HUGE R.L. Mathewson fan and I doubt that will ever change. I was gifted Black Heart by a friend and devoured it as quickly as I could.
Marty is a tough, feisty, hardworking independent woman who won't take anyone's shit; and that includes the cold, totally alpha male Tristan, who just happens to be the hottest guy around and her crush since high school. His attitude leaves no room for anyone beside his adopted family to get close, and that means pushing his childhood friend away as soon as he got ready for collage. But he has a dark secret that needs to be kept to himself no matter what. Already the town deems him crazy, how worse would things get if they found out he saw ghosts?
Her characters are well developed with quick wit and stubborn traits that will have you laughing with them, and sometimes wanting to strangle them- all in good nature, though. She combines her old writing style (the one we're used to) with a new spin; strategically twisting humor and seriousness to give the right air for every detailed scene.
My only complaint involves the secondary characters. There were so many that even the author seemed to get confused and would write the wrong name with the dialog. But regardless of it, they were fun to read about as was everything else.
The prologue; in the author note R.L. Mathewson talks a bit about her decision to add it to the story. She said she believed it added more to it- and I have to agree! I loved it and thought it took a good story to a whole new level. Without it, we would have been missing important information about Tristan that helps reveal the whys behind some of his peeves.
The plot line was a bit complex but I believe it was explained pretty well through out the book. It was mysterious and full of mind blowing twists!
I'm trying really hard not to go into a bunch of spoilers, so I will wrap it up with this: R.L. Mathewson has released another wonderful book that has me eagerly awaiting the next one in the series; and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in paranormal romance! (And it's a steal for only $2.99)
