Horror/Suspense
Blurb
Sara Featherstone is a loser. At twenty she is still indentured to her parents, her best friend is a closet clairvoyant, and her long time boyfriend just dumped her and refuses to tell her why. Five years ago her world ended with her brother, Tommy, running his motorcycle into a tree, and the life she might have led had never started.
Catapulted into the dark streets after a "visitation" from Tommy, Sara has no idea that all that wasted time is about to catch up with her. A chance encounter with a man wielding a knife sets in motion a chain of events so bizarre that Sara will soon question everything she has ever believed. From her boyfriend's fidelity to her best friend's innocence to what her brother knew about a missing classmate, irony is about to make Sara its bitch, and the next twelve hours might be her last.
I gave it five out of five stars.
Let's start with a young woman still grieving the death of her brother. Then add some nightmares, a few weird occurrences, paranormal events,an addiction to soda, and BAM! A hauntingly beautiful story emerges with the perfect mix of suspense and mystery.
Sara is an incredibly stubborn woman who is taking one step forward, and two back in life. She lives in a small gossipy town that barely sees more than a simple disorderly conduct on Friday nights. Her beloved brother, Tommy, passed away in a motorcycle accident five years prier and that accident still lingers on her broken heart. Her boyfriend is now an ex for mysterious reasons, her best friend is a charmingly bubbly woman that won't judge when things need to come out; like the reoccurring nightmares that have started to wake her up at odd hours of the night. Life seems to really be taking a dump on Sara, but the reasons are about to unfold in this captivating tale of a small town with a big secret.
Once I started reading, I couldn't stop. Honestly when I came across the dreaded "The End" on the last page, I had thought I had been watching a movie the entire time. It was perfectly descriptive with a sense of realism that kept me wondering 'what if' or 'could this really happen'? I loved it! Even if it did scare me on an occasion, haha. Sara isn't the perfect hero, she is an average girl who happens to stumble into things beyond her control and can only roll with what it gives her. Which, along with her witty and tough attitude, made her all the more lovable. My heart went out to almost of the characters in this book, even the smaller ones seemed to play an important role.
The story line was smooth, well thought out, and immensely intriguing. Though horror isn't usually my first book of choice, I will be rereading this one again! And again... And again...
Well done! Seriously recommended to horror, suspense, drama, and mystery fans everywhere! It's $3.99 (last time I looked, price may have dropped since then), but to me, the price is well worth it!
