Coming soon....
What Remains by James Fuller

Teaser:
Archers eyes opened and the world around him was a pale, luminous grey, almost like fog had saturated everything with its ominous gloom. He was standing in the middle of a cracked, disintegrating roadway. There were single and two story buildings on either side of him, decaying from time and the elements or even the haze that surrounded him was eating away at it. He tried to look closer but every time he tried to focus on a single spot it faded and seemed miles away.
"Where the hell am I?" He whispered yet his words seemed to echo all around him. He recognized the place but couldn't pull the time or place into clear view in his mind.
Stepping forward his boot crunched the broken asphalt beneath it and that sound too seemed to carry impossibly far. He felt panic rise in his chest, if there were people about, they would have the jump on him. He reached for his gun and found nothing in his holster.
The sound of distant laughter and running rippled through the town almost like waves of strange music that crashed against him soaking into his very core. He had no idea what direction the sounds came from but he ran anyways slipping in and out of alleyways and onto new roads until he caught sight of a figure running into a large two story building. HIs breath was nearly stolen from his lungs as realisation hit him of where he was.
"No!" Archer cried out, "stop!" He followed inside knowing exactly where he would find the boy. "I'm not going to hurt you, stop!" Taking the stairs two at a time he soon found himself face to face with the closed door in the hallway.
Archer could feel his pulse pounding in his chest as he placed his hand on the doorknob. "I am coming in and I am unarmed don't shot." He waited but heard nothing in response.
He closed his eyes and turned the faded brass knob pushing the door open. The sound of two gunshots rang out and he heard the sound of lead biting into the wood behind him. He pried his eyes open to see the figure in front of him buck back and hit the wall. "NO!" He screamed and looked down, a small waft of smoke exited the barrel of his handgun.
"Impossible," he muttered and threw the weapon aside and ran to the boys aid. "No, no... I was unarmed... I didn't mean... this can't be happening." The hood of the boys jacket fell aside and the boy stared up at him with fear filled eyes.
"No one can escape fate..." the boy whispered before all life left them...

Archer woke, his heart pounding dangerously in his chest, his fist clenched so tightly his nails had cut small lines into his palms. It had just been a dream, a terrible dream but a dream all the same. It had been the first time he had dreamed of that unfortunate incident. The first time he had felt guilty about it.
